Need advice for getting custody of my son?

we moved into my mother's house in sept. due to no job and could not pay for anything. In the meantime my wife was abusing drugs. She would stay in bed all day and night for 6 months. My mother asked her 4 times in 6 months to get up and do something and take care of her girls. She did nothing. Now she moved out but never told me that she was not coming back and left me and my son at home and took her girls. She got busted by DCF at a motel with drugs for her own use and for selling. What are my chances of getting my son without a lawyer. I have my son now but have to go to court and fight for him.
